Preliminary Task

Continuity editing is a way of cutting used to maintain a clear continuous narrative action by following a set of rules. The rules consist of the sequence having: establishing shot, shot-reverse-shot, 180 degrees rule, 30 degrees rule, crosscutting, match on action, eye-line match and re-establishing shot. The benefits of a continuity sequence is that the narrative has a structure and the sequence flows smoothly.

For this sequence we were put into groups of three and was given the task to create a short clip of continuous editing consisting of a shot-reverse-shot and match on action. We were told to edit the sequence individually on Final Cut Pro on the macs. By editing as individuals it helped me a lot as from then i knew how to use Final Cut Pro as i was using the software throughout the editing process. This preliminary task helped me in developing skills on editing sequences as well as how to film shots which will definitely come handy in the future when i will need to create a title sequence with my group as Media AS Coursework.

As this continuity editing was only a preliminary task  I think that it was done successfully  as all the rules were covered in which a continuity editing consists of. However when it comes to the stage where we have to create our title sequence then i will take into consideration of the sound in which the sequence will include of, i will edit the sequence further like adding filters and effects and will take different camera angle movements. The part in which i did not like about this sequence was that the noisy ambient sound was kept which makes the sequence sound irritating and distracting. I think we could have developed on that by adding a voice over however due to time restriction we didn't have enough time to do that.
