Brainstorm-First Initial Ideas
24/01/14
In today's lesson ,with Emily, we made notes from a PowerPoint presentation on Roland Barthes Enigma Code in which Emily had created.
My notes:
My notes:
- Theories on films, audiences, narratives, symbolic meanings on media
- Enigma code(hidden messages/codes)
- Portrays a mystery to draw an audience in
- Suggests text
- Barthes theory of five codes are a way of grouping signifies according to the role they play in text.
- five codes are categorised as- The Hermenutic code, The Proairetic code, The Semantic code, The Symbolic code and The Cultural code.
After doing our brainstorm, we spoke to Emily and decided that we didn't want our title sequence to be based around romance drama genre but romantic comedy. This is because we came up with good ideas, that can be contributed in our title sequence, that flowed much better with the romcom genre rather than the romance drama genre. I think the idea of having an opposite hybrid genre is good as it will give us a wider range of what to include in our title sequence.
Here is a slide created for codes and conventions of romantic comedy.
Audience profiles
22/01/14
In Leanne's lesson, we were told to research codes and conventions of our film genre and to create a media profile within our coursework groups. Here are the slides we created based on the task:
Within our media audience profile research we were told to create our own production company logo.

This was our starting point for creating the logos so that we had a rough idea of what we wanted our logo to consist of.

This was our starting point for creating the logos so that we had a rough idea of what we wanted our logo to consist of.
We then developed on it by creating a much detailed logo on photoshop. This is now our final production company logo. We chose to have a heart as our production logo due to it being linked to romance genre and being named 'Romway'; romcom films. I like how its simple neat and professional. I think the logo goes really well with the whole romantic genre.
Karin Fong Presentation
20/01/14
In Sinead's lesson we all presented our PowerPoint presentation on the individual group designers we had researched on. Our PowerPoint was on Karin Fong;
As groups were presenting their PowerPoint presentations we were all making notes on each of the designers so that we can see the different designers work and how it could inspire us and give us ideas when we create our title sequence. The feedback from Sinead our group got was that she asked if we were inspired by Karin Fong and whether were going to reflect our title sequence in her style. Our response to Sinead was that the designer we researched, Karin Fong, was a little inspirational but not as much as her work is mostly animation based and for our title sequence we don't really want to create an animation based work.
